Soaking up the last few weeks of summer! 8 Ideas for family fun!

By Krystal Brashear Publisher Macaroni Kid North Brevard! July 18, 2024

As we enter the last few weeks of summer, back to school commercials and events are popping up everywhere, and before we know it summer will be over, and the kids will all be back in school. Its definitely a little bitter sweet if you ask me, BUT we still have time to have some fun and really soak up that last bit of summer with the kids! Here are some ideas!

  1. Make smore’s

This summer classic, is not only affordable and simple, but as you are sitting around the fire ( or grill!) the conversations with your children are priceless!

  1. Visit the beach

One of the great aspects of living on the Space Coast is living so close to the beach! Pack a cooler, blanket, and head out for a day of electronic free fun! Too hot? Consider an evening trip, to have all of the fun and not all the sun!

  1. Sign up for a trial class!

Several studios in our area offer trial classes, whether it be dance, gymanstics, karate, etc a trial class is always a fun way to try something out before committing to lessons!

  1. Have ice cream for dinner

Yes, you read that correctly. Pick a night, and go all out on the toppings! This is something that although silly ( and maybe not the healthiest) the kids are sure not to forget!

  1. Hold a backyard water day

Break out the water balloons, squirt guns, sprinklers and kiddie pools, and have a water war! This can be done as a family, or invite some friends!

 * Up your artillery game, on extra hot days, place water balloons in a cooler of ice!

  1. Have a “thrift store” family dinner outing

Everyone's name is written on a slip of paper ( with their sizes), and placed in a bucket, then everyone chooses a name from the bucket on who they will shop for. Then it's time to hit the local thrift shop! Before going out on your dinner outing everyone dresses in the ensemble picked for them and must wear it out to dinner!

  1. Movie under the stars!

Set up the projector, gather the snacks, lay out the blankets, and watch a movie under the stars in your own backyard! You can even make a get together out of it.

  1. Cooking challenge!

Just like the popular tv show! Three rounds, appetizer, main dish, and dessert. Divide into teams ( allow for at least one person to be a judge, and little ones to be paired  with older ones). Each team gets a basket each filled with the same ingredients, teams must come up with a dish using all of that round's basket ingredients before the time is up ( time can be suited to your family), the winner of 2 out of three rounds wins!

* If playing with older kids, a wager rule of the bottom team has to do the dishes can be fun ,and especially break out the competitiveness and excitement!
