This could be my favorite shark week project of all time! The kids and I had an absolute blast making this DIY Sharknado!

You may have heard of the corny science fiction movie Sharknado. We decided to recreate what an actual Sharknado would look like. We got creative and had to put a little work into it, but this is what we came up with.

YOU WILL NEED

HOW TO

Rinse the 2-liter bottles clean and remove the labels.

Print the shark template and cut at least 3 sharks out of aluminum foil. This was trial and error on our part. I was originally going to use small shark toys, but we discovered they didn’t work as well as these aluminum foil sharks. The foil is light weight enough to really get carried by the water. They work perfectly!

Fill one 2-liter bottle 2/3 of the way full of water. Add 4-5 drops blue food coloring, glitter, and sharks.

Use the tornado bottle connector to connect the two bottles. Make sure your connection is tight.

Now flip and spin your bottles to get the Sharknado going. Sit back and enjoy  It was hard to get really great pictures but I can guarantee you that this is even cooler in person.  This is great for shark week, or just for a fun science experiment. Add other things to your tornado bottle and test how they fly in the vortex.
